Kenya’s success was led by Bishop Emeritus Jackson Kosgei, who delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

Kenya's Parliamentary Darts Team once again proved its dominance at the 15th Annual East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Inter-Parliamentary Games, emerging overall champions in the darts competition held in Kampala, Uganda.

Kenya’s success was led by Bishop Emeritus Jackson Kosgei, who delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

Kosgei dominated the individual category, winning 10 of his 11 matches to collect 30 points.

In the doubles category, Kosgei teamed up with Senator Mbugua to win the gold medal, further stressing Kenya’s superiority.

Another Kenyan pair, Harold Kipchumba (Nominated) and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who also serves as the team captain, claimed silver, sealing Kenya’s position as the best-performing nation in the darts competition.

For Kosgei, the victory marked a successful defence of the title he first won during the 14th EALA Inter-Parliamentary Games held in Mombasa in December 2024.

Kenya also posted a strong showing in the women’s category. Turbo MP, Janet Sitienei, who captains the women’s team, won silver, whereas Uganda’s Laura Kanusu claimed gold, while Makueni County MP Rose Museo took bronze.

Speaking after the tournament, men’s team captain Tim Wanyonyi praised the organisers, noting that the Parliament of Uganda had engaged professional referees to officiate the matches, ensuring fair play and smooth competition over the three days.

“This improvement raised the standard of the tournament and brought out the best in all players. I commend Team Kenya for their discipline and teamwork, which helped us emerge champions,” said Wanyonyi.

The darts competition featured 14 participants, three women and 11 men from five parliaments: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Darts remains one of the key disciplines at the Inter-Parliamentary Games, which aim to promote unity, sportsmanship, and cooperation among legislators in the region.

Unlike previous tournaments where seated and standing players competed in separate categories, this year all players competed together.

The move, driven by EALA’s commitment to equality and affirmative action, was widely praised as a progressive step.

Beyond the competition, the Inter-Parliamentary Games continue to serve as an important platform for building friendship and strengthening regional integration among East African legislators.
